Getting “Up To Speed” On The Building Committee

February 27, 2019 by Cory Olsen Leave a Comment

It was brought to my attention that some members of the congregation, including myself until I became part of the committee, may not be up to speed on the fact we are even considering a building project.

That being said, the committee would like to furnish a timeline of how we got to this point:

Fall 2017 – During a Voters meeting, the congregation was informed of the need to replace the roof over the kitchen.

Winter 2018 – During a Church Council meeting, the possibility of installing a lift along with the kitchen roof replacement was discussed.

Summer 2018 – After being contacted by NCI Roberts Construction about building needs, a discussion began about adding a lift and an addition over the kitchen, nullifying the need for a new kitchen roof. Later on, meetings were held with NCI Roberts Construction and Catalyst Construction discussing different possibilities. After the meetings, Catalyst Construction was identified as contractor frontrunner.

28 October, 2018 – During a Voters meeting, the Church Council presented a proposal to “Approve funds up to $5,000 to be used for preliminary architectural plans” related to the potential building project; the proposal was approved.

2 February, 2019 – During a Voters meeting, a proposal was introduced to approve a Building Committee to handle the details of the building project. They are: Jeff John (Chairman), Cory Olsen (Secretary & Publicity Chair), Ben Thompson (Construction) and Bill Weisensel (Subcommittee Chair), Rick Waldschmidt (Fundraising), Dennis Behr (At Large Member), Kevin Klahn (Finance), and Pastor Jeff Hendrix (Ex-officio Member).

13 February, 2019 – The Building Committee met with Tim Dittloff (Stewardship Innovations), Mark Arndt (Catalyst Construction) and Tom Schermerhorn (Excel Architects, Engineers and Surveyors). The committee signed a contract with Excel to prepare preliminary architectural plans. Additional details can be found in our post “Building Committee Update”, 13 February, 2019.

Building Committee Update

February 26, 2019 by Cory Olsen Leave a Comment

13 February, 2019

During this visit with our building addition consultants, the committee posed questions concerning average lift types and costs, A.D.A compliance standards for remodel and addition, kitchen roof replacement, restrooms and a touch of financing. In short, we put forward our list of our wants and needs for the congregation to the consultants and discussed some potential options.

At the end of the meeting, Tom Schermerhorn (Excel) presented the committee with a contract to produce preliminary architectural plans as approved during the 28 October, 2018 Voters Meeting; we should receive these plans around 3 to 4 weeks from contract signing. Committee Chairman Jeff John signed and returned the contract following the meeting putting our turn around date to between 6 and 13 March, 2019.

Stay tuned…

Wish List

December 18, 2018 by Pastor Hendrix Leave a Comment

The end of the year is a time of giving.  Often we see that we have “extra” from the Lord (which is really His in the first place) to give.  Below are some items that various committees of Faith have decided would be nice to have.  These are things that our committees think will benefit those we serve in one way or another.

Use your “designated offering” envelopes to give towards a certain item.

Thrivent Members may also apply for up to 2 Action Grants per year, each in the amount of $250.  Many items on this list may fit the criteria for the grants.  Talk to Pastor or Rick W. if you need help applying.

Cymbelstern“Cymbal Star.” (Elders/Worship)

Goal: $1100 – FUNDED!

A musical instrument addition to the organ.  When engaged, the star rotates, producing a continuous tinkling sound. Common in Lutheran churches in the 16th-18th centuries.  Used during the Sanctus, a doxology, or other “bright” hymns.

New Liturgical Banners from Ad Crucem (Altar Guild)

$300 per season set ($150 per banner x 2 for each season)
LENT BANNERS FUNDED!

Priority: Lent, Easter, & Trinity Seasons.  These liturgical banners were designed by a Bethany Grad and member of a church of our fellowship.  They are Christ-centered and combine themes from an entire season.  The entire collection of banners can be viewed here.

Christmas Schedule

December 17, 2018 by Pastor Hendrix Leave a Comment

Advent 4 (Children’s Service): Dec 23, 9:00am

We celebrate the season of Advent before Christmas (“Advent” is Latin for “Coming” as in Christ’s coming to us). Our children’s service will help us close out the season of Advent and welcome in Christmas.

Christmas Eve (Lessons & Carols): Dec. 24, 7:00pm

Our Christmas Eve service will be a “traditional” service of Lessons and Carols. But more than traditional, it will be historic. The service will include many different hymns and prayers centered around ancient “antiphons” (refrains of Scripture verses).

Christmas Day (Divine Service): Dec. 25, 9:00am

Christmas isn’t complete with “Christ’s Mass,” where Christ comes to us in His true body and blood in Holy Communion. Like most churches, we reserve Communion for those who are communicant members. But you are invited to join us for the entire service. The service uses an ancient order with hymns, lessons, sermon, prayers, and Holy Communion.

1st Sunday of Christmas:  Dec. 30, 9:00am
Caroling to shut-ins at 10:30am

12th Day of Christmas Party:   Jan. 5, 5:00-8:00pm(ish) at the Parsonage

Festival of Epiphany: Jan. 6, 9:00am
