Building Committee Update
Realizing I am a bit behind, here are your BOGO updates.
28 March, 2019
A web meeting was held with our consultants to discuss a couple floor plan options that had been provided by Excel. During the meeting, Excel expressed a little concern that they could not find anywhere that the roof over the kitchen had been made to withstand a second story which could mean replacing that roof to make the second story possible.
By the end of the meeting, the committee was definitely leaning more toward one option than the other but had some design questions as well as property line questions since the church property shifts at the middle. Excel said they thought both options would work on the property but they would check into our allowed building setbacks.
24 April, 2019
This was the second web meeting (3rd meeting overall) where we got to view a third option which address some gathering space questions and possible property line issues. While the committee liked some things about the new option, it seemed to take away from some of the needs we had highlighted in the beginning. We discussed getting some elevation drawing to see what the outside of the church would look like and also trying to alleviate some of the things we liked from the third option but still covering our original needs.
Excel was going to look into creating some elevations and the committee was going to confer and finalize what our needs and wants were now that we have seen some options the determine our next steps. Our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 13th.
Holy Week & Easter Schedule

Paschal Triduum
Maundy Thursday | 7:00pm – Service of Confession / Divine Service. After celebrating the Lord’s Supper, the altar is stripped of its vestments and appointments, recalling the Lord’s abandonment in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Good Friday | 7:00pm – Tenebrae Vespers. A solemn service of adoration of Jesus the Lamb of God as He offers up his life.
Holy Saturday | 7:00pm – Easter Vigil Service. The Easter Alleluia sounds forth for the first time in the midst of the dark night and we are carried in spirit to Christ’s tomb where the Creator’s Sabbath rest was transformed into a new Day and Age, the Day of the Lord.
Easter Sunday
Easter Breakfast | 8:00am. Join us for a meal served by our confirmation class and their families.
Easter Sunday | 9:00am – Easter Festival Divine Service. With Easter, Christ fulfills the Old Testament Passover, proving God’s anger has passed over us because of His sacrificial death as the Lamb of God. For this reason, it is most fitting to celebrate with the feast that Christ Himself instituted to commemorate His death and resurrection until He comes (1 Cor. 11:26): Holy Communion.
Easter Vigil Service
April 20, 7:00pm (ending around 8:30pm)
Joint service at Faith with Resurrection, Verona
Faith Lutheran Church will be premiering a new cymbelstern on April 20 during our first annual Easter Vigil Service. A cymbelstern is a “cymbal star” for the organ. The cymbelstern is an old instrument, and unusual to have today. It was common in Germany throughout the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.
The service will be an Easter Vigil Service.
This is an ancient (c. 350 A.D.) tradition which connects our Baptism to Jesus’ Resurrection. The service, which is unlike any other in the church, begins outside with a fire. Believers then process into the darkened sanctuary with candles, as the lights are gradually illumined, when finally the feast of the Lamb, the Lord’s Supper, is celebrated and the Alleluias are sung! Join us as we await the dawn of Easter!
When the Alleluias are sung for the first time, the cymbelstern will sound.
The service begins at 7:00pm on Saturday, April 20 (Holy Saturday) outside the church on the Washington St. side of the building.
