Festival of St. Nicholas

November 23, 2020 by Pastor Hendrix Leave a Comment

The event will take place at Faith Lutheran Church, in the back of church (parking lot side), outside on December 6 at 4pm.

Our Living Nativity Family Christmas Experience this year will bring us to the real life Christmas of St. Nicholas. This smaller production will be in commemoration of the feast day of St. Nicholas.

Hear the story of the real life St. Nicholas (or, as better known through Dutch, Santa Claus). St. Nicholas cared deeply about children, especially those didn’t have much. He gave gifts, echoing the love of God and the greatest gift of all, Jesus.

Come along with us as we travel back in time to meet the good bishop. After hearing from St. Nicholas, join members of Faith Lutheran Church, Oregon, WI for some Christmas caroling.

We will practice physical distancing and remain outdoors the entire time. Every family that attends will receive a free Christmas book (with the option to pick one at various reading levels).

It all takes place at 4pm on Sunday, December 6, the feast day of St. Nicholas.

Faith Study Center Opening Soon!

September 10, 2020 by Pastor Hendrix Leave a Comment

Out of School Learning Space. Faith Lutheran Church intends to open a very low-cost, supervised space for up to 15 children ages 8 and up to attend during the school day.

Interested in registering a student?

We are seeking volunteers (people to take turns cleaning in the evenings, and provide some supervision), and donations to make this center a possibility. Please contact Pastor Hendrix if you are able to help.

Singing Resumes

August 21, 2020 by Pastor Hendrix Leave a Comment

Dear members, There has been the thought among some pastors at least that if we are required to wear masks, that it seems to accomplish the same thing as not singing, or as we have been doing, limiting singing to the very end.

As I announced at the beginning of last Sunday’s service and live stream, after discussion among our elders, we intend to go back to “normal” services on Sunday, with sung liturgy and hymns throughout. The windows will remain open and fans on. Hymns and some parts of the liturgy will still remain shortened. The liturgy and hymns will be printed out in the single-use service folders. Our cleaning procedure will remain as it has been.

However, I welcome feedback. I want to be able to accommodate as many people physically in church as possible, and will seek to do what I can to make that happen.

Private communion services (without singing) for families will continue on Thursdays via registering on our website.

Hymns, in the Lutheran Church, are not mere “songs of praise.” If they were, we could do without them, since God is clear that He doesn’t need anything from us. Rather, hymns are proclamations of the Gospel. The Gospel is something we need. All the more now. So as we proclaim to each other the wondrous works of God and encourage each other, God is pleased.

One final note of encouragement: If you haven’t been coming because of the mask mandate, know that no one will shame you for wearing or not wearing a mask. This is a place where comfort is given to sinners in need. Nothing – not even masks – should keep someone from the Lord’s House and all the gifts distributed here. We are, after all, a family, in the truest sense of the word through Baptism into Christ.

“Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have the habit of doing. Rather, let us encourage each other, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25)

In nomine Jesu,
Pastor Hendrix

Edit: After this was sent out, a news article from the BBC claimed that singing is hardly any more risky than speaking when done at the same volume.

Private Communion & Private Absolution

June 29, 2020 by Pastor Hendrix Leave a Comment

While some may feel uncomfortable gathering in groups due to the ongoing pandemic, it is nevertheless important to continue to be fed with the forgiveness, life, and salvation of Jesus.

For this reason, Pastor is setting aside Thursdays each week for individuals or families to schedule times for either Private Communion, or Private Confession & Absolution.

The Lutheran Church teaches that private confession is useful for all Christians, and especially those who feel burdened or anxious by their sins. “Of Confession we teach that Private Absolution ought to be retained in the churches, although an enumeration of all sins is not necessary in confession. Indeed, it is impossible according to the Psalm, “Who can understand his errors?” [Psalm 19:12]” (AC XI)

Deep Hurt & Deep Love

Deep Hurt Due to Racism and Sins by those in Authority, but Deeper Love of God

Pastor Hendrix’s sermon from Trinity Sunday covered racism and the unrest from the perspective of the revealed Word of the Triune God. Many have asked for a written copy, so in addition to the podcast, the manuscript copy can be downloaded here.

Many feel deeply hurt in our country and understanding the Ten Commandments allows us to begin to understand why. But only a God who knows the deep hurt that His people feel is One who can heal it. Thankfully, this is the God we have: One who condescended to absorb our mess and stand with us in our evil.
